Ke Gong was born in June 1955. In December 1986, he received a doctorate in communication and radio wave propagation from Graz University of technology, Austria. He returned to work in the Department of electronics of Tsinghua University in 1987 and was promoted to professor in 1994. He has successively served as the director of the State Key Laboratory of microwave and digital communication of Tsinghua University, the vice president of the graduate school, the director and vice president of the College of Electronics, the director of the Aerospace Technology Research Center, the president of the College of Information, and the director of the National Laboratory of Information Science and Technology of Tsinghua University. In July 2006, he served as the president of Tianjin University. In January 2011, he served as the president of Nankai University.
He has long been engaged in the teaching and research of wireless communication technology, including microwave and millimeter wave technology, personal mobile communication system, antenna and radio wave propagation, satellite communication and electromagnetic compatibility. He has successively completed a number of scientific research projects, published more than 100 papers, won the Scientific and Technological Progress Award and Technological Invention Award of the State and Ministries, and won the title of "Excellent Returned Overseas Chinese" by the Ministry of Personnel and the State Education Commission in 1997. In 2001, he was elected as a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Astronautics.
